What is CWR?
This all volunteer, nonprofit retreat was organized by a group of women led by Oralyn Dennison for the purpose of providing an opportunity for women of all denominations to go away for a weekend to reflect and collect their thoughts, to hear inspiring messages from outstanding Christian speakers and to renew and rededicate themselves to living and understanding their lives under God’s authority in their homes and communities. Since 1981, the California Women’s Retreat has provided the opportunity for women to grow in fellowship with others and in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Our Faith Statement
We believe in the Triune God and salvation through Jesus Christ. We believe that God’s Word is divinely inspired and infallible, written and preserved by men through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Thirty Five Years and Counting!
California Women’s Retreat was founded and organized in 1980 by Oralyn Denison. The first Retreat was held January 30, 31, and February 1, 1981, at the Sheraton Inn, Concord, California. The weekend retreat became an annual event.
Oralyn Denison and her husband, Joe, died in a tragic private airplane accident January 30, 1984, just three weeks prior to the 1984 Retreat. The committee dedicated that Retreat to Oralyn Denison, Founder and Chairman of California Women’s Retreat. The Oralyn Denison Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1986.
On October 31, 1985, California Women’s Retreat was incorporated as a California Non-Profit Corporation, with California and Federal tax exempt status before the California Franchise Tax Board and the Internal Revenue Service.
It is now possible for California Women’s Retreat to receive donations from individuals or businesses.
